shehe.... we're talking about films we don't like.
Apart from those middle budget continental-type movies most of the stuff which reaches us from the non-english speaking world is of a consistently high standard. These films are, more often than not, engaging and intrigueing films.
I think there's this stupid `canon` of film history which states that certain film-makers are great because.... er they were great. The stupid idea that DWGriffith wasn't important because he was racist just goes to illuminate that this `canonical` history is just a politically correct and westernised propaganda story.
Chaplin and Welles were firsts in doing what they did. They also extended the craft. Just because someone invents a pan doesn't mean that they were the master of the pan and that their films had the best pans in them. No others have made far better use of the inventions of Welles and Chaplin than they themselves did. So rub these names out of your `great films` notepad and stick em in your `historic films` one.
p.s. I like it Austin. Perhaps you're right maybe Lucas can direct his way out of a paper bag, after all there's only one exit right?

They broke open the seam at the bottom of the bag so there were two openings to make it easier for him, and put up signs indicating showing the exits but he still couldn't find his way out. So they took the bag away and asked him to imagine directing his way out of a paper bag. Even then he was unable to do it without stumbling and tripping over the edge of that aforementioned cliff. ILM then painted the bag in after so that Lucas wouldn't look like such a fool.
Lucas lives alone near San Fransisco. Surely there's something odd about that?

Almost as odd as IBM supplying the logistical systems to keep track of the Jews during WWII.
I don't think ppl should be too offended by austin. Many talents are absolute tossers. But most tossers are just talentless, hiding behind arrogance. But arrogance DOES get things done. But arrogance isn't always reliable to turn up on set, unless you bait them with some interest.
How can you argue against 'politically correct' and not embrace to some extent what austin has to say? you CAN ignore him afer all!!
